An independent, coeducational college-preparatory school in Pasadena, Calif., Polytechnic School offers a broad curriculum in the liberal arts for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Position: Middle School Science Teacher (full-time)
Responsibilities
The Middle School science teacher is responsible for teaching chemistry and STEAM to all 74 seventh-graders. Experience with robotics is desired. The teacher works closely with the sixth and eighth grade science teachers and the other eighth grade team members. He or she is also responsible for teaching a two-hour elective once a week, facilitating a weekly advisory group, and participating in the Middle School Outdoor Education program and the larger life of the school.
Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree(s) preferred;
 Three to five years of teaching experience; preferably with Middle School students;
 Solid understanding of pre-adolescent development, strong communication skills, and a passion for teaching this age level;
 Candidate should enjoy a collaborative work environment and possess the personal qualities of humor, patience, and flexibility.
Physical requirements and work environment
 Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts;
 Work on ladders and lifts;
 Working with power tools;
 Work at a desk and computer;
 Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;
 Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
