Job Description/Responsibilities:
Reports to: Head of Primary School
Employment Status: Full time, 10 month employee
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

The ideal Prekindergarten Teaching Assistant is one who loves young children and can provide students with a nurturing and warm environment while assisting the lead teacher with strong academic expectations. The teaching assistant will work collaboratively with the lead teacher in providing the safety, security, and educational needs of the Primary School students. The teaching assistant should model ethical and professional behavior, accept personal responsibility for his/her actions, and demonstrate a commitment to the school and its policies.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Support the mission, beliefs, and policies of The Walker School
• Be professional in dress and behavior
• Assist the lead teacher in preparation of materials to support the curriculum
• Assist the lead teacher in organizing a safe academic and physical environment
• Communicate effectively and demonstrate effective writing, listening, and speaking skills
• Assist the lead teacher, as directed, with student supervision and discipline
• Provide information/observations to lead teacher for reports, report cards, newsletters, calendars, etc.
• Foster teamwork and a cooperative working environment
• Pursue appropriate professional development to enhance knowledge and improve skills
• Adhere to the safety guidelines as outlined by Bright From The Start
• Serve on committees and assume tasks that may be required to improve the overall functioning of the school
• Assist the lead teacher in maximizing the use of instructional time
• Assist the Head of School and the Head of Primary School with duties that may be assigned as necessary, such as admission testing, open houses, and evening events
 
 
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 1-3 Years

 
Qualifications:
The Primary School will consider candidates who have attained a Bachelor’s degree and preference will be given to those with a degree in the education field.
