Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Music & Choral Director is an energetic, creative and skillful music educator who is responsible for developing students’ understanding, skills, and appreciation of music. Additionally, this person nurtures each student’s passions, talents, and boundless potential in the musical arts.

The Music & Choral Director is responsible for developing, arranging and staging music performances and events, ensuring the success of the music program throughout the school year, and teaching K-8 students the joy of music and movement as connected to each grade level’s curricular themes. The essential job responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:

Oversee and develop an instrumental, choral, comprehensive K-8 music program
Develop students’ musical knowledge and vocal skills as connected to each grade level’s curricular themes
Lead students to appreciate and enjoy music and movement
Direct the choir, vocal ensembles and soloists in various assemblies and school and community events
Guide and develop students to become confident and successful with practice and performance
Employ effective teaching methods and student management skills; employ adequate supervision to ensure student safety
Lead and supervise students during tours and competitions
Direct the Mustang Chorus and Mirman School’s Upper School Concert Singers in school events, touring events, competitions and special performances
Develop students’ work ethic, team spirit and excitement to promote the highest level of success for the individual student and the music program as a whole
Develop the students’ understanding of a diverse range of music genres and history of music and genres
Communicate student progress with parents in a timely manner
Teach all classes as assigned
Evaluate the learning experience of students in curricular and social-emotional work
Collaborate with other teachers in the planning and execution of musical and theatrical programs
Collaborate with teachers across disciplines and divisions to ensure curricular integration
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School and Division Heads
Utilize best instructional practices, methods, materials and technology
Cultivate and model a respectful, safe, creative, inclusive, and invigorating environment
Evaluate student work through both formative and summative assessments, benchmarks and other tools to guide instructional planning and promote student success
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers and assistant teachers throughout all grade levels on campus to strengthen community and student experience
Ability to relate and communicate well with students, parents, and colleagues

Other Qualifications and Responsibilities:

Strong understanding of independent school methods and ability to effectively integrate best practices of NAIS and CAIS
Ability to work effectively with Head of Lower School, Head of Upper School and other Faculty and Staff members.
Demonstrate effective and respectful management of classroom culture
Demonstrate ability to establish connections and rapport with children of all ages
Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school, including a commitment to inclusivity and equity
Exhibit the ability to work as part of a team
Excellent communications, team-building and collaborative skills
Strong knowledge of music theory, composition, vocal and music arrangement; staging and choreographed movement; and other related skills for the successful delivery of music education and choral performance
Understanding of current technology used in music education and performance
Demonstrated ability to work with differentiated abilities and employ teaching methods

Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

Job Qualifications:
3-5 years’ experience with teaching and directing choral music programs, preferably in K-8 schools
Orff-trained musician
B.A. or Master’s Degree in Music Education or related field
Able to pass state and federal background checks
Clear TB and criminal background check upon hire
