Job Description/Responsibilities:
UPPER SCHOOL CLASSROOM TEACHER


An Upper School classroom teacher collaborates with the relevant Department Chair and reports to the Upper School Director. The standard load includes serving as an advisor, teaching four classes, and a fifth significant contribution to the community such as leading a co-curricular program, coaching a sport, or teaching an extra section of a class.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study

Good planning and organizational skills
Effective communication skills
Imagination and flexibility
Comfort using digital platforms and a willingness to explore opportunities to integrate technology into instructional practices and innovate accordingly

An appreciation and commitment to different learning needs and differentiated instruction
Commitment to creating inclusive environments in which each member feels comfortable and accepted as part of a respectful community in which differences and commonalities are appreciated and valued

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides an inclusive, imaginative and engaging learning environment that welcomes all students and recognizes their varying learning styles
Prepares daily and long-range lesson plans
Posts resources electronically and observe resource guidelines
Works collaboratively with colleagues in the department
Assesses individual and group skills, using a variety of assessment instruments
Develops curricular tasks that require each student to think, to respect and learn from others, to contribute ideas and supported opinions, and to exercise self-discipline and persistence
Offers additional help to students outside of class during free periods and office hours
Communicates constructively with parents
Keeps appropriate and accurate records in learning management system
Completes report cards and progress reports professionally and punctually
Participates in appropriate committee work within the school community
Pursues professional development opportunities, both individually and collaboratively
Participates in extracurricular activities and supervisory assignments which enhance the quality of school life
Provides positive role-modeling for students
Responds to student issues by referral to school counseling and/or appropriate administrative staff
Reads and conforms to the policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook
Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature
Represents the school in a professional manner
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience: 0-1 Years

 
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS​:
● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study

Likely focus area of position: Chemistry, possibly Physics

Ability to coach athletics a plus
