Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Catherine Cook School is seeking resumes from experienced, dynamic humanities teachers to join our middle school team. This is a wonderful opportunity for a creative, skillful teacher with expertise in and passion for the teaching of writing, close reading, historical inquiry, and current events to work with well-prepared students as part of a talented, collaborative middle school team. The ideal candidate is skilled at building a high-functioning classroom community that helps students envision themselves in their work and understand their connections and responsibilities to the wider human community. The current program introduces students to significant issues in American history, with a workshop approach to reading and writing, and a thematic approach to social studies, offering many opportunities for integrating the disciplines. Resources include access to a fully outfitted fabrication lab, ubiquitous technology, and support for learning and integrating new tools to enhance current century explorations in literacy. Qualified applicants will be willing and able to engage with students as an advisor and to develop and teach elective courses. In addition, the qualified applicant will:
• Design academically challenging, appropriately differentiated humanities experiences and curricula
• Cultivate a growth mindset in self and students
• Use a wide-range of authentic assessment strategies
• Communicate thoughtfully, respectfully, and clearly with parents
• Contribute to a culture of innovation with high standards for excellence and ethics
• Work competently within a fully supported one-to-one laptop program
• Use technology to expand learning opportunities, create a collaborative learning environment, and communicate with all members of the CCS community
• Create thoughtful, well-written progress reports
• Chaperone overnight field experiences
• Develop and teach elective courses in areas of interest
• Participate actively in professional growth opportunities for teaching and advising
• Build cultural competence and global awareness
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

• B.A. with extensive background in English, History, Writing, Literature (degree in one of these fields preferred)
• M.A. (focus on English, History, or Writing teaching preferred)
• Significant experience teaching middle or high school humanities
