Capital City Public Charter School
Capital City was founded in 2000 with a Lower School campus serving grades PK-8. The Capital City Upper School campus opened in fall 2008 with grades 6-9 and is graduating its first class of seniors in2012. The entire school will relocate to a newly renovated single campus for the 2012-2013 school year.  Capital City has been a model for school reform in the District.  The school implements the Expeditionary Learning model in tandem with the common principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES).  Through Expeditionary Learning ( teachers craft expeditions that incorporate projects, research, fieldwork and service to support students in meeting rigorous standards. The CES principles ( emphasize equity, depth over breadth, student leadership, andauthenticity.  Capital City’s program also emphasizes a strong social curriculum, a commitment to diversity, a strong inclusion model, and the integration of arts into the curriculum. There is a strong focus on professional development and a collegial atmosphere ideal for teacher learning and professional growth.
