Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) is a coed, public charter day school serving over 1000 students in grades PK-12. Founded in 2007 and emphasizing high expectations for all students, LOA has received national and state recognition as a high performing school, including as one of the top ten public high schools in Georgia and one of the fifty best public elementary schools in the country. In 2014, LOA was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School. It consistently earns five-star climate ratings by the Georgia Department of Education. 

Focused on citizenship, scholarship, and community, LOA offers a wide variety of programs, courses, and experiences that address the academic, interpersonal, physical, and social needs of students. Among these offerings are more than twenty AP courses, dual enrollment opportunities at local universities, job shadowing and internship opportunities, a wide variety of student clubs and interscholastic sports, and an International Spanish Academy (ISA), which provides immersive language opportunities for students in grades K-12 and through which students can earn a second diploma from the Ministry of Education in Spain. 

With a view toward preparing students for the increasingly dynamic and interconnected global society in which we live, work, and play, the school actively embraces innovative change. It currently is pursuing several exciting initiatives, including new blended models of learning and teaching that seek optimal balances both of technology with high quality human instruction and of personalized learning with high standards for all students.   

Nestled next to Reynolds Lake Oconee in Georgia’s Lake Country, halfway between Atlanta and Augusta and less than an hour south of Athens, the school is housed on a modern 50-acre campus. A new state-of-the-art upper school building and a 32,000 square-foot student activity center both opened in 2019.
