Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Director of Music will serve as a leader for the next phase of a rich tradition
of music instruction and performance at St. George’s. The position will be
responsible for managing the direction of the Chapel Choir and other school
groups and ensembles as appropriate; designing and teaching courses in music
theory, history and performance; oversight of adjunct teachers of private lessons
in voice and instrument; and participation in the twice-weekly liturgical life of
the school.

● With colleagues in the Arts department and the Chaplaincy, establish a vision for the
teaching of music within an academically rigorous secondary school program;
● Envision and direct the Chapel Choir to inspire all students to sing with joy and
commitment in weekly observances and worship (currently on Tuesday and Thursday),
as well as special performances at Christmas and on selected evenings and weekends
during the school year;
● Envision and implement with colleagues school performances and exhibitions
throughout the year in order to showcase student work;
● Serve as a member of the Department of Creative & Performing Arts in the
development of opportunities for students in composition and performance;
● Lead instruction of the pit band for the winter musical and other productions;
● Participate in the continued design of curricular and extracurricular opportunities in
Dragon Breath Recording Studios;
● Teach two courses through the academic year;
● Contribute to the afternoon, residential and extra-curricular endeavors of the school
● Other duties, including evening supervision of the campus, as assigned.
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

● Passion to work with teenagers in a complex and demanding academic environment;
● Significant experience as a musician, instrumentalist/organist and/or choral director;
● Enthusiasm to participate in an integrated program of Arts teaching at the high school
level, including the visual arts, theater, and in the liturgical music, classical, jazz, pop,
gospel, electronic music, and/or world music traditions;
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and serving students and teachers
from all backgrounds and traditions;
● Strong interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills;
● A Bachelor’s degree in Music and/or Performing Arts; Master’s degree preferred.
