Job Description/Responsibilities:
Science & Arts Academy (SAA) is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational, not-for-profit day school for junior kindergarten through eighth grade students located in Des Plaines, IL.  SAA educates gifted children in an academically differentiated and enriched environment while recognizing the unique development of each child. Position Description:

A spirit of innovation, creativity and collaboration are hallmarks of the Explore and Create (EAC) class. Students in junior kindergarten through eighth grade explore and create with various low and high-tech maker tools, materials and ideas.

SAA believes every student should have the opportunity to be a maker and learn processes and “technologies” through making, tinkering and problem solving.

With a passion for discovery, exploration and creation, the Maker/STEAM teacher will work with students across grade levels.  Responsibilities may also include participation in a newly formed Technology Task Force and lunch/recess duties.

Topics include, but are not limited to: woodworking (hand and power tools), laser cutting, circuits, sewing, cardboard, electronics, coding and robotics.
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

Mastery of creative and diverse methods of teaching and assessing students

Demonstrated talent in creating a positive and nurturing environment for students

Comfortable utilizing technology as a tool to connect students with their learning  

The ability to work closely and collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

A person who believes in the critical importance of diversity in the life of a school

Commitment to social/emotional learning

Required Qualifications:

1.  A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred.  Educational technology coursework or technology specialist (computer related) endorsement a plus.

2.  Illinois Teaching Certification or in process of gaining certification

3.  At least three (3) years teaching experience
