Job Description/Responsibilities:
Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for a Full-time Associate Director of College Counseling beginning August 2020. This is a 10-month position which offers an excellent array of benefits and a highly competitive salary. The Academy, founded in 1759, is a non-sectarian, coeducational, college preparatory school of more than 1,100 students in Grades PK-12, located in the northwest suburbs of Philadelphia on a campus of 126 acres.

Position Purpose:
Germantown Academy seeks an Associate Director of College Counseling to work collaboratively with the Director and a team of three other college counselors to assist with all operations of the office, work closely with students and parents, and manage a caseload of 35-40 students in each of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes.

Specific duties include:
• Working collaboratively as a member of an energetic team;
• Writing recommendations for approximately 35-40 students in each graduating class;
• Teaching College Seminar for juniors;
• Helping students identify an initial college list and appropriate college matches;
• Establishing relationships with college and university representatives through meetings with college representatives who visit GA, visiting college campuses, and attending regional and national conferences;
• Advocating for seniors in the admission process;
• Fully utilizing the resources of Naviance to facilitate the college search and application processes;
• Serving as the point person for underclass students and parents who have questions about the college counseling process prior to being assigned a counselor in April of the sophomore year (developing programming and/or exercises for younger students to reflect and make the most of their school resources);
• Compiling and disseminating scholarship and summer program information;
• Supporting divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work as appropriate;
• Serving as an advisor in one of seven houses;
• Assisting with coordination of a spring college fair and other college counseling programing;
• Managing the office and attending administrative meetings in the absence of the Director;
• Participating in professional development;
• Participating in faculty and staff meetings.

 
 
Minimum Degree: Ed. M
Certification Required: Yes
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

 
Qualifications:
• A minimum of three years’ experience in high school college counseling and knowledge of independent schools;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong organizational and presentation skills with an ability to meet deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently;
• Deep knowledge of admission trends and policies, financial aid, and individual colleges;
• A love for teenagers and a good sense of humor.
