Do you have a love of the great outdoors along with experience planning and implementing dynamic lessons and experiences in the outdoors? Can you bring with you a background of diverse experiences and perspectives to foster connections with our students, families, and staff? Cedar River Montessori School, on the outskirts of Seattle, seeks an experienced Outdoor Educator to create and implement lessons with our early childhood and lower elementary students. The Outdoor Educator will take a lead role in building onto a newly created program, and the right candidate should be excited about incorporating environmental education, hands-on science, and social and environmental justice in the outdoor classroom. The Outdoor Educator designs and implements an outdoor curriculum for small groups of children ages 3-6 and 6-9 on our 12 acre campus. This full-time position will design a program to be provided to young children in 2-3 hour blocks, throughout the school week. This educator will work in collaboration with current outdoor staff, including part-time gardening and ecology specialist and full-time animal behavioral specialist, and as an extension of our foundational Montessori classrooms. The Outdoor Educator must be willing to spend time outdoors, in all weather, with their students. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 1-3 Years

Education and/or experience in outdoor education for preschoolers, with deep knowledge of the Pacific Northwest ecosystem, natural history, and the Indigenous experience Experience working with young children and families in a group setting Experience or knowledge of Montessori approach, or willing to take introductory coursework Positive Discipline training and Anti-Racist/Anti-Bias training, or willing to take Minimum of Lead Teacher qualifications through Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families, including bachelor’s degree CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens certified or be willing to obtain
