Position Title: Director of Global Education

Reports to:  Division Directors, Assistant Head of School

Receives Guidance & Support From: Assistant Head, Directors of Teaching and Learning

Collaborates Closely With: Directors of Teaching and Learning, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Department Chairs

Supports: Students, Faculty and Administration

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Global Education will serve as a catalyst for the growth of Chadwick’s global education program while providing leadership and direction for the school’s international activities.  The Director will establish strategic plans, priorities and goals for global education that align with the mission and goals of Chadwick School.

 

The Director of Global Education oversees a program that spans all three divisions: Village School, Middle School and Upper School.  The Director of Global Education will cultivate interest in and provide support for students and faculty for global education opportunities as well as partner with the Directors of Teaching and Learning in the development of curriculum and professional development initiatives that integrate global education and international perspectives into the curriculum.

 

Establishes Vision and Purpose

·         Establishes a vision for global education at Chadwick that is aligned with Chadwick’s mission and endorsed by supervisors

·         Provides input into strategic plans to strengthen their alignment with the mission of developing global citizens

·         Identifies, communicates and garners support for the educational goals and objectives of Chadwick’s global programs

 

Provides Governance and Leadership

·         Develops and manages the global program plan and budget, overseeing logistics, addressing policy needs, and assisting in identification of new program opportunities.

·         Anticipates and attends to risk management issues.

·         Oversees and guides implementation of all global curricular and co-curricular programs (eg. Round Square Board, ASSIST, Semester Away Trips,  MacFarlane Scholars, International School Exchanges, Global Citizenship curricular offerings, Global Education Speaker Series)      

·         Oversees the global education budget, monitoring and reporting expenditures throughout the year

·         Reviews and provides feedback on processes for assessing and monitoring the appropriateness of sub-contractors or third party vendors with whom Chadwick engages, including a review of their credentials, references and past performance

·         Provides input to the school administration on decisions that will best support the mission of developing global citizens

·         Creates and/or reviews the global field curriculum, global destination selections, projects and activities

·         Creates and communicates clearly defined expectations for student-centered learning and activity on global programs and trips

·         Supports the review, revision and implementation of changes to global education to strengthen the connection between the field curriculum and the academic curriculum and to ensure global trips forward Chadwick’s mission

·         Increases and improves K-12 on and off-campus opportunities for students to demonstrate global citizenship

 

 

Academic Curriculum Design and Instruction

·         Collaborates with the Curriculum Team to create and review a curriculum that develops the knowledge, skills, understandings and dispositions required of global citizens

·         Articulates explicit outcomes for all key learning opportunities in the global program and designs learning activities that are aligned with these outcomes

·         Ensures that students understand what the goals of global program activities are and that they are guided in regularly reflecting on progress towards these goals

·         Provides guidance, feedback and mentorship to faculty on increasing the cultural competence and global perspective of their disciplinary courses

·         Teaches at least one class at Chadwick and is respected as an expert in curriculum planning and instruction

·         Uses the class(es) they teach at Chadwick as a learning lab for faculty for how to teach a global course; endorses classes taught by other faculty that can serve as global education “learning labs”

·         Offers professional development related to global education and the development of global citizens to faculty

·         Works with Directors of Teaching and Learning to ensure that faculty orientation, August week and professional learning days feature opportunities to learn more about global education and its relevance to Chadwick’s mission

 

Communication

·         Communicates effectively with stakeholders about the school’s global education programs

·         Actively maintains supportive relationships with stakeholders to promote and implement global learning initiatives

·         Reviews and approves guidelines for supporting student ethical behavior and conduct, participation in groups, appropriate dress and cultural sensitivity for all faculty and students involved in global co-curricular programs

·         Develops and maintains relationships with Chadwick’s global community partners

·         Performs other duties as assigned

 
 
Minimum Degree: BS
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 5-7 Years

 
Qualifications:

Preferred Experience and Skills

·         A bachelor’s degree is required

·         A master’s degree in an academic discipline is preferred

·         At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience relevant to global citizenship

·         Experience in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in a school setting

·         Experience in leadership and adult development

·         Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty in curriculum development

·         Experience in evaluating and providing feedback to teachers on their teaching

·         Demonstrated track record of collaborating with administrators, faculty and staff on school-wide initiatives

·         Experience leading curriculum planning with a backwards design approach

·         Experience in planning and coordinating global trips

·         International Travel experience and network

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

There are routine responsibilities associated with this job that require specific physical abilities of the candidate.  To carry out these responsibilities, the candidate must be physically able to:

·         Lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.

·         Occasionally  use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.

·         Carry out tasks requiring the following vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.

·         Use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.

·         Sit while operating word processing equipment for up to 6-8 hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
