Job Description/Responsibilities:

Catlin Gabel School in Portland, OR is seeking a dedicated and passionate Science Teacher to join our academic team for the Upper School (High School grades). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four year-long sections of science classes, which will include foundational ninth and tenth grade courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. In addition to these core classes, the teacher will have the opportunity to offer an elective course for the 2024-2025 academic year. While we have suggested elective courses like Neurobiology and Pathogens & Parasites, we are open to exploring other relevant subjects based on your expertise and interests.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching science subjects at the high school level, particularly in biology, chemistry, and physics.  This is an excellent opportunity for a Science Teacher who is eager to engage and inspire young minds through dynamic and hands-on teaching methods. Success in the position will be evaluated based on the individual’s ability to support the Upper School in achievement of their goals, which includes:

  • Create an inclusive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations.
  • Collaborate with other science teachers to plan and implement a cohesive science curriculum that aligns with Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Communicate in a clear and timely fashion with parents, students and colleagues.
  • Cooperatively work and communicate effectively with parents in conferences and written reports in ways that meet the needs of the students and the school.
 
 
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

 
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

       Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; Master’s degree preferred

       At least three years of demonstrated effective teaching experience with high school students

       Experience and interest in mathematics or computer science preferred

       Experience in competency-based curriculum design and assessment preferred
