Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Social Studies at the middle school level, particularly with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), and will be familiar with World History and United States History across various time periods. This position will teach five sections of Middle School courses and will lead a Middle School advisory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements inquiry-based instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
- Prepares course material such as syllabi, course overviews, unit plans, homework assignments, and assessments, ensuring completion of the curriculum
- Provides students with ongoing and effective feedback about their work which includes group and peer critique, guided self evaluation and criterion based rubrics
- Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction with guidance from the Department Chair
- Maintains effective and timely record keeping procedures using educational technology
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
- Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment
- Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure students are working in an environment conducive to learning
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating activities
- Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
- Stays current with technology advances and incorporates technology in the classroom
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor
