Middle School History Teacher
SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Wilbraham & Monson Academy, situated on 300+ acres in Western Massachusetts, is an independent day and boarding school of 400 students in grades 6 - postgraduate. As one of the country’s oldest boarding schools, Wilbraham & Monson Academy has been educating global citizens and world leaders since 1804.
ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Wilbraham & Monson Academy seeks a History instructor for the 2025-2026 Academic Year to be responsible for:
Teaching two sections of Grade 6 History with a focus on the geography, major religions and a broad historical survey of China, India and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Teaching two sections of Grade 7 History with a focus on geography of North and South America, as well as a broad study of Christianity and the Aztec and Incan people. A survey of United States Civics plays a key role in the North American Unit.
Contributing to grade level meetings, department meetings and school aligned initiatives.
Providing daily/weekly assignments and associated feedback and grading on the school’s Canvas Learning Management System.
Provide student support during designated office hours each day
Serve as an advisor to 4-6 students
AFTERNOON/ATHLETIC PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
All faculty at Wilbraham & Monson Academy are also expected to participate in our afternoon program for two out of three seasons. This traditionally involves athletic coaching and/or afternoon activity supervision.
RESIDENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
If living on campus in school provided housing, faculty are asked to provide one night a week & one weekend a month of dorm supervision.
If living off campus, faculty are asked to provide four weekends a year of activity duty/supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will be an educator with:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in History, Geography, equivalent coursework, or relevant field
Minimum of 2 or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
Experience in a boarding school environment
Experience working with students with various abilities
A demonstrated commitment to diverse populations and student well being
A track record of collaboration with colleagues

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands include dexterity for office machines including but not limited to computers, telephones, electronic calculators, copy machines, and printers. Common physical demands include stooping, bending, reaching, walking and sitting or standing for extended periods.
