Job Description/Responsibilities:

Hopkins School, an independent day school for grades 7-12 located in New Haven, CT, is seeking a Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management to begin July 1, 2025. A full-time, 12-month, exempt position reporting to the Head of School, and a member of the School’s senior leadership team, the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the admissions process to attract, enroll, and retain mission-appropriate students at Hopkins. The Director develops and implements strategic enrollment plans, oversees recruitment efforts, and fosters relationships with prospective families, feeder schools, and the broader community. The Director works closely with the Head of School and others to ensure alignment with the School’s mission, values, and long-term enrollment goals.

Outgoing and people-oriented, the Director is an inspirational ambassador who can effectively tell the story of Hopkins and its impact on children. The Director is also a critical thinker and data analyst who uses market research to set goals, assess results, and adjust recruitment strategy as needed to meet changing circumstances. The Director oversees an admissions team of five and an Admissions Committee of 11 in processing close to 500 applications each year, awarding approximately $7 million in need-based financial aid, and enrolling 140-150 new students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive enrollment management strategy to attract and retain a diverse and talented student body.

  • Admissions Process Management: Oversee all aspects of the admissions process, including inquiries, applications, interviews, testing, and decisions, ensuring a seamless experience for prospective families and fulfillment of the School’s annual enrollment goals.

  • Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with the Communications team to develop marketing materials, website and other digital content, and outreach strategies to promote the School’s value proposition.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data and analytics to assess enrollment trends, predict future needs, and inform decision-making.

  • Collaboration with Faculty and Staff: Partner with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure effective and inspirational presentation of Hopkins’ programs and a mission-aligned admissions process.

  • Retention Efforts: Partner with the Dean of Students and others to enhance student retention and strengthen community engagement.

  • Event Coordination: Plan and execute admissions events, including open houses, tours, shadow days, and yield events, to educate and engage prospective students and their families.

  • Financial Aid Coordination: Work in collaboration with the Director of Financial Aid and the Chief Financial and Operating Officer to administer the financial aid program, ensuring accessibility to qualified students through an equitable, consistent, and need-based process.

Community and Feeder School Engagement: In partnership with the Director of Community Engagement, cultivate relationships with local and regional schools, community organizations, and educational consultants to build a strong pipeline of prospective students.

 
 
Minimum Degree: BA
Certification Required: No
Minimum Experience: 5-7 Years

 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in education, business, marketing, or a relevant field.

  • Minimum of five years of leadership experience in school admissions, enrollment management, or a related field.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication skills, especially public speaking.

  • Experience with admissions software, data management systems, and digital marketing strategies.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and strategically while demonstrating creativity and initiative.

  • Cultural competence and a record of working to foster and support a diverse, inclusive community.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience, and shaped by national benchmarking (e.g., the NAIS 50-75th percentile range for this position at schools with more than 700 students is $140,000 - $180,000).
