POSITION SNAPSHOT Start Date: July 1, 2025 - This is a 12-month position. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EQUITY AND BELONGING EXPECTATIONS Position Expectations Handle day-to-day operations and ensure that equity-related policies and practices are effectively applied within classrooms and child study meetings. Enhance student life and emotional, social, and spiritual well-being in collaboration with the School Chaplain, Psychologist, Health Educator, and Dean of Students by emphasizing DEI in: interreligious pastoral care. integrating DEI more fully into their respective areas of interaction with students. planning, implementing, and evaluating regular and special DEI programming (e.g., DEI-related chapel, convocation, and mention services, etc.).
Supervise and evaluate the implementation of student affinity and alliance groups. Serve as a classroom and community presence and resource for DEI curricula and programs. Strengthen the DEI emphasis in curriculum development and anti-bias pedagogy, particularly in the Lower School Collaborate with Division Heads to assess ways to augment the DEI emphasis within the curriculum. Partner with the professional staff to integrate DEI perspectives more fully into St. Luke’s curriculum and overall pedagogical approaches, including the assessment of developmentally appropriate ways to teach DEI and social justice issues to Junior Kindergarten-Grade 8 students, with a focus on the lower school division. Partner with School Chaplain to support and teach REJ classes, when appropriate. Serve as an US advisor and play an integral role in the Student Support Team
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of equity initiatives and make recommendations for improvements. Work with the communications department to ensure regular DEI updates to the St. Luke’s School community via the School’s website, newsletters, bulletin boards, and other School-approved communication channels. Address equity-related issues and concerns raised by or involving students and provide avenues for resolution. Facilitate staff and family professional development, as needed. Manage DEI activities and events. Collaborate with the front office on orders, catering, etc. Partner with the Chief Equity and Belonging Officer on supporting the parent affinity groups such as student programs during POSOC, activities for celebrations, etc. Assist with other projects, tasks, and activities as needed for the Equity and Belonging department and the student support team.

Perform additional duties such as morning, recess, lunch and participate in the life of the school. Be present and on-time to assigned duties. Participate in and attend faculty/staff meetings and committees, including school-wide initiatives about issues of equity, pedagogy and curriculum. Participate in the life of the school, including attendance at required events such as curriculum night, parent conferences, grade-level cocktail party, Christmas Fair, Spring Benefit, and school games and events. Enforce school policies and rules with students. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Faculty members also need to be proficient with Google Classroom and have the ability to use classroom technology such as Smart Boards, Zoom, etc.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree in related field preferred 3+ years experience of relevant experience working, engaging, and collaborating with professional staff, families, students, and alumni in creating and executing DEI work in a JK-12 setting. An experienced DEI practitioner with a commitment to the school’s mission, community standards, and desire to foster inclusive belonging and social justice. Have a significant command of various equity-based intellectual disciplines and social change theories including, but not limited to, anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogical approaches, and post-colonial analysis. Excellent managerial, communication, and facilitation skills and the ability to serve as a strong and sensitive guide in DEI-related matters for the professional staff, students, families, and alumni. Patient listener who is creative, intellectually curious, courageous, and humble. Although the implementation of DEI is a serious matter, the ideal candidate also will exude joy and will possess a sense of humor and a winsome personality that empower the community.
