Job Description


Position Type: This is a full-time, salaried (overtime exempt) position with full benefits. It reports to the school’s Director of Advancement.


Projected Salary Range (per the D.C. Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023): $95,000 - $110,000 annualized salary.


Direct Reports: This position does not have direct reports.



Position Description:

The Field School's program is ambitious and bold, and our employees, all of whom are considered “faculty,” are required to embody the mission of the school – students discover their authentic selves and distinctive paths to become empathetic, creative thinkers who act boldly to shape our shared future – in their day-to-day interactions with students, in the design and implementation of curriculum, and in their professional interaction with colleagues.


A flexible and innovative mindset is required. As content experts and students of best practice, all Field faculty are expected to adapt to their students' learning interests and needs. Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate are also important, as Field faculty in leadership regularly work with teachers, student-support teams, department chairs, and academic/departmental leadership to ensure that all of our students are being supported and challenged by our mission.

Primary Responsibilities:


Donor Engagement and Stewardship:

  • Partner with the advancement team and senior leaders to develop donor engagement opportunities, create solicitation strategies, and implement stewardship plans.
  • Develop stewardship opportunities through special events, various communication channels, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Assist in identifying potential leadership volunteers and other partners.
  • Partner with the Director of Advancement and the Director of Alumni Affairs to manage a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy that connects, informs, and inspires alumni through both personal outreach and mass communications.


Events and Community Engagement:

  • Manage and execute community engagement initiatives, collaborating with key partners to track and monitor attendance, evaluate outcomes, and make recommendations for future enhancements.
  • Along with the Director of Advancement, work closely with parent volunteers and school leadership to plan and execute our annual fundraiser event (Dare to be Field).
  • Manage the planning and execution of Alumni events and engagement, including alumni gatherings, outreach, an alumni e-newsletter, and the production of alumni stories and profiles.
  • Support the planning and execution of annual fundraisers and cultivation events for new and current families.
  • Enhance the culture of giving within the community through special events, volunteer opportunities, and print/electronic materials.


Fundraising:

  • Partner with the Director of Advancement to develop and execute The Field Fund (annual fund) plan. This will include managing the communications calendar and assisting with crafting appeals.
    • Manage The Field Fund acknowledgement letter process.
    • Assist with The Field Fund committee volunteers, including recruitment, training, and scheduled updates.
    • Assist with The Field Fund calendar and solicitation plan.
  • Assist with prospect research.
  • Regularly generate and analyze reports to track advancement progress.
  • Build relationships with constituents and personally solicit gifts as appropriate.


Administrative and Strategic Support:

  • Track constituency activity in Raiser’s Edge NXT or other designated portals.
  • Work with volunteers on the Dare to be Field Committee, Field Parent Association, and Alumni Ambassadors, setting goals, timelines, and monitoring progress.
  • Attend and participate in Advancement Committee meetings.

Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

 
Qualifications:

Competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is desired; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising and development.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with setting and achieving large-scale gift goals, and understanding how individual goals and metrics contribute to overarching fundraising objectives.
  • Intermediate-level proficiency with Raiser’s Edge and NXT platforms; knowledge of Give Campus, Double the Donation, Google Suite, OneCause, and ThankView preferred.
  • Proven experience in a forward-facing role, engaging with a variety of audiences to cultivate a culture of philanthropy.
  • Proven success in leveraging prospect-giving history, data analytics, and research to solicit contributions and drive results.
  • Track record of building successful fundraising initiatives and appeals using new technologies and best practices, producing outstanding results.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills for direct solicitation and donor acknowledgment.
  • Experience collaborating with a Communications department to create personalized and compelling appeals for giving and engagement.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage event logistics and multiple competing priorities with minimal oversight.
  • A creative approach, strong work ethic, collaborative mindset, enthusiasm, and positivity are essential attributes.
  • Previous experience in education, independent schools, and/or the non-profit sector is preferred.
  • Availability for occasional weekend and evening responsibilities as required for events.


Work Environment: As a highly visible position, this is a full-time on-campus role. All Faculty may be asked to perform their work duties at home (in the event of remote learning) and/or on campus. In both settings, this role is required to maintain a professional, shared work environment. While on campus, classes and other activities may be operating either in person or in a distributed setting. All faculty are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day, regardless of the setting.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, all faculty are regularly required to talk and hear. This position, while primarily desk & office based, is at many times active. It requires sitting for prolonged periods, and at times standing and walking, including stairs, and the occasional moving rearranging of furniture, equipment, and other heavy and bulky items.


Travel: Regular off-campus local travel is expected to attend events. Occasional regional and national overnight travel is also expected in this position.

The Field School offers a comprehensive set of employment-based benefits to full-time employees of the School.


Eligibility begins on day one (1) of full-time employment which is defined by the School’s benefit plan as those employees who work at least 30 hours per week on an average weekly basis, consistently throughout the year.


Healthcare Benefits including a choice of Medical Insurance Plans, Dental Insurance Plans, and a Vision Plan, are included in the current benefits plan offerings.


The School reserves the right to amend or cancel the current benefit plan offerings, at any time, with or without prior notice.


New full-time employees to the School will have thirty (30) calendar days from the start of their employment to enroll in or decline all benefits, including these Healthcare Benefit offerings.

Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, regardless of when the enrollment takes place, provided it is complete within the first 30-day enrollment eligibility window.
