Position Overview:
Charleston Day School (CDS) seeks to hire a Director
of Learning Services. Our goal is to hire a professional who will help
reimagine a learning support system that supports all of our K-8 students. This
will include coordinating services for students with diagnosed learning
differences, identifying students who need support, and working with our
faculty to provide a learning experience that effectively reaches all
learners. This role provides leadership, strategic direction and
oversight, fostering collaboration among teachers and families and assuring
alignment with the school’s mission and academic goals.
The ideal candidate:

Is eager to
build and lead a comprehensive learning support program
·
Has experience
in learning support and/or special education coordination
·
Possesses
strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
·
Has experience
collaborating with a range of colleagues and the ability to guide
continuous improvement
·
Has knowledge
of intervention strategies, student support frameworks, and best practices in
differentiated instruction
·
Has training
and experience with Orton-Gillingham methodologies
·
Will spend
time understanding the CDS program, curriculum, traditions and aspirations
·
Will conduct
individual and small group sessions for students on specific learning
strategies, both for students with and without diagnosed learning differences
Essential Responsibilities:

System
Creation: audit the current state of learning services and work with
administrators to build short and long-term plans to enhance learning support
·
Team Building:
work with CDS administration to build a learning support team
·
Facilities
Design: design optimum use of learning support spaces on campus
·
Collaboration
& Communication: serve as the primary liaison between students, teachers,
families and learning support personnel, including tutors
·
Program
Oversight: monitor learning support programs, ensuring consistency and quality
across grade levels and divisions
·
Professional
Development: assess training needs and design professional development sessions
on learning interventions and support services for faculty
·
Education:
facilitate parent education opportunities regarding the scope and nature of
learning support services
·
Resource
Management: assist in scheduling and resource allocation for efficiency and
effectiveness
·
Data &
Reporting: document student progress to support data-driven decision-making
·
Advocacy &
Policy Implementation: uphold school policies, ensure compliance, and advocate
for resources and program improvements
·
Standardized
Testing: administer standardized testing and evaluate our standardized testing
program
