Job Description/Responsibilities:

Middle School Math  Teacher 26- 27

Kingswood Oxford School

West Hartford, CT

Kingswood Oxford is seeking a full-time Middle School Math teacher who is passionate, innovative, and collaborative – an educator who models a growth mindset and is committed to equity-focused pedagogy. In addition to having a strong educational background and teaching experience in all levels of middle school mathematics, successful candidates will be technologically savvy, have experience with curriculum design, and model best teaching practices.

Optimal teaching candidates at Kingswood Oxford embody the following standards of excellence that demonstrate a commitment to our community:

● Fosters a safe, predictable, and supportive environment for students

● Embraces KO’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

● Creates a culture of learning

● Maintains professional credentials

● Engages authentically in KO’s faculty growth program

Curricularly, successful candidates should have a deep understanding of middle school math and adolescent development and approach teaching as a facilitator of mathematical thinking rather than a dispenser of procedures. Experience with inquiry-based and project-based learning is essential; candidates should be comfortable designing open-ended tasks, student-led investigations, and contextual, real-world problems that invite students to construct and communicate mathematical understanding. A strong grasp of how to build mathematical discourse in the classroom, foster productive struggle, and honor multiple approaches to problem-solving is key. Candidates should also demonstrate skill in scaffolding, differentiation, and stretching student thinking across a heterogeneous classroom, reflecting our belief that all students can engage in rich, rigorous mathematics. Rather than relying primarily on traditional testing, successful candidates should have experience with formative and ongoing assessment practices,  including high-quality, responsive feedback,  that center student growth and sense-making over performance. A commitment to connecting mathematics to students' lives and the broader world is at the heart of our program.

The position involves multiple parts:

  • Teach 4 sections of middle school math

  • Be a Middle School Advisor

  • Participate in our Skills Incubator Program

  • Participate in our Middle School Co-curricular program (arts and athletics)
