Cannon School, established in 1969 as Cabarrus Academy and renamed in 1998, originally occupied the Historic Concord residence of textile entrepreneur J.W. Cannon. In the decades since, Cannon School has become a preeminent Junior Kindergarten through twelfth grade college preparatory independent school, serving not only the families of Concord, but the greater Charlotte region as well.

Today, under the leadership of Head of School Matthew E. Gossage, Cannon School serves more than 900 students, Junior Kindergarten through twelfth grade, primarily from the Concord, Davidson, Charlotte, Huntersville, Salisbury, Mooresville, and Lake Norman areas.
