Community High School is a private, progressive, secular institution. Although we are not a conservatory, all of our students are required to take a significant number of arts courses in addition to a rigorous preparatory curriculum.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds reflectingthe economic, ethnic, religious and cultural diversity of the region. Our board is dedicated to keeping tuition low—currently it covers significantly less than half of the cost of educating each student, with additional financial aid available for all with demonstrated need. The eventual goal is to become an entirely tuition-free school.
Roanoke City serves as the de facto capitol of Virginia’sBlue Ridge. The metropolitan area contains approximately 300,000 people and is home to a major research university, two liberal arts colleges and a medical school. Community High is located in a renovated Nineteenth Century warehouse in the heart of Roanoke’s historic downtown, a block from the region’s museums of art, science, photography, transportation and history, and from its symphony and equity theater.
