Saint Mary's School is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades 9-12. Established in 1842 in the Episcopal tradition, Saint Mary's historic, residential, 23-acre campus is located in downtown Raleigh and within easy driving distance of world-renowned Research Triangle Park and the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Dedicated to academic excellence and personal achievement, Saint Mary's School looks at life academically, socially and spiritually. With a demanding, integrated, and hands-on, academic program, Saint Mary's faculty and staff work with students to build a strong academic and personal foundation, guided by the habits of a lifelong learner including critical thinking, communication, and character. Saint Mary's School offers 16 Advanced Placement courses and a full complement of honors courses, competition in 11 sports, a comprehensive fine arts program, one-on-one academic advising program, leadership curriculum, and co-curricular programs to prepare students for independence and success in college and life.
The student body is comprised of girls from 11 states and seven foreign countries: China, Korea, Nigeria, Poland, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, and Vietnam. The student/faculty ratio is 8:1 and the average class size is 12.5 students. The average teaching experience for Saint Mary's faculty is 15 years with 83% of the faculty holding advanced degrees in their field. More than 30 faculty and staff live on campus with their families, making for a vibrant 24/7 learning and living community.
