Employer Description

The Brearley School is a college preparatory day school enrolling 699 girls. We serve eager, able students who reflect the intellectual and cultural vitality of New York City. Brearley's mission is to educate young women for active and responsible citizenship in a democratic society. In pursuit of that goal, the School aims to assemble and sustain a community of students and adults who engage each other in learning and bring to every enterprise a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and points of view.

Teaching methods are varied, flexible and pragmatic, taking into account individual patterns of development and ways of learning, and the program is designed to challenge students intellectually and to give each one the opportunity to gain competence, self-reliance and self-knowledge through academic achievement, experience in the arts, athletic activity and the pleasure of helping other people.

We count on the faculty to create and maintain an atmosphere of honesty, generosity and genuine respect for the thoughts, efforts and feelings of others, and to adhere to the same standards of considerate behavior and personal and intellectual integrity which they expect their students to observe. Salary scale for full-time teachers according to number of years of teaching experience: $32,000 - 82,470.
