Diversity Mission Statement

Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Vision

We commit to an inclusive and diverse community in which everyone can say, "I belong."

We will foster:

  • A diverse, safe, and equitable school environment.
  • Actions and advocacy that support our Core Virtues.
  • Cultural competence, anti-bias, and social justice.
  • Intellectually curious and engaged global citizenship.

Building Leaders for a Diverse World

Our mission is to develop responsible citizens for a global society. Through our curriculum and school activities, we engage students in exploring diverse perspectives, cultures, and identities. From early learning to middle school, our programs are designed to cultivate empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of the rich tapestry of human experience.

Our diverse community is embraced through daily practices, curriculum, and traditions that honor a wide range of beliefs and cultures. Our unique chapel program is a testament to this, bringing together students of all ages to explore major world religions, celebrate human commonalities, and reflect diverse perspectives.

Professional Development: A Pillar of Our DEIB Strategy

St. Thomas School invests significantly in professional development to enhance our faculty's and staff's understanding of DEIB. This includes workshops, book clubs, and speaker series on topics like microaggressions, implicit bias, and cultural competency. These initiatives ensure that we are continually growing and learning as educators and community members.

The Board's Role in Advancing DEIB

The St. Thomas School Board of Trustees plays a crucial role in our DEIB efforts, demonstrating leadership and commitment to these values. The formation of DEIB committees at the board level reflects our strategic approach to embedding DEIB in every facet of our governance. Through retreats, workshops, and ongoing education, our board members are deeply engaged in understanding and addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Their work not only guides our policy and decision-making but also ensures that DEIB remains a central focus in our school's strategic planning and daily operations.

An Ongoing DEIB Journey

We acknowledge that the journey towards perfecting DEIB is ongoing. We are constantly identifying areas for growth. We invite you to join us in this journey of learning, understanding, and celebrating the diverse world we live in.
