Employer Description

Founded in 1888, Lake Forest Country Day School is an independent, coeducational day school with over 390 students age 2 through Grade 8. The School is located on a 29-acre campus in Lake Forest, Illinois, a suburb approximately 30 miles north of Chicago. The student body represents 34 different communities from the northern and western suburbs of Chicago. The school-wide student teacher ratio is nine-to-one. The LFCDS Mission Statement and Core Values reflects a shared belief in cooperation and involvement among students, faculty and parents which provides a basis for each child's individual behavior which is a vital aspect of school life and personal development.

At LFCDS, we believe that rigorous academics can be taught in dynamic ways that allow students to experience the joy and the excitement that is at the heart of so many enduring learning experiences. We feel privileged to partner with students and families in the development of the very foundations upon which these children will build their lives. Elementary and middle school is a once-in-a-lifetime journey, so we need to provide the best possible setting and resources for growth.

Relationships are at the core of the LFCDS experience; between students and teachers, and among peers actively engaged in the pursuit of academic excellence. Our small class sizes and exceptional teacher-student ratios enable our educators to help children take intellectual risks, develop confidence in their abilities, and shape their identities as individuals.

Teaching and learning are not by rote here. Our Lower School students use a Singapore Math curriculum that helps them develop practical, experience-based problem-solving strategies. Upper School students work in teams to troubleshoot engineering dilemmas through Lego robotics challenges. The classrooms, technology offerings, laboratories, art spaces, and playing fields all serve as vital staging grounds for a rich program designed to prepare LFCDS graduates to be compassionate, independent thinkers with a strong sense of personal integrity and intellectual curiosity.
