The Russian School of Mathematics is an award-winning, afterschool math program for K-12 students. We help children of all levels build a solid math foundation and develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Our systematic curriculum and approach is based on the best practices of math schools in the former Soviet Union and Europe, adapted to the US educational environment. Our dedicated and trained teachers are distinguished by their extensive background in and passion for mathematics. Online courses are also available for students in locations without a physical branch.

For over a decade, RSM students have consistently churned out remarkable scores on standardized tests and in national and international math competitions. But achieving top test scores is just one of the benefits of RSM’s program. RSM students also see higher grade point averages in school, more confidence, and a strengthening of problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) opened in 1997 with the goal of creating a unique after-school mathematics program. Our hope has been to build a systematic educational approach based on the traditions of the former Soviet Union and the European style of education, while adapting to the needs of American students.

Today, RSM is one of the best after-school math enrichment programs in the Northeast.

Developed by a team of passionate and knowledgeable experts and based on innovative research into children's mental development, RSM's curriculum is unique in the US: each lesson at our math school carefully builds on the concepts introduced in previous lessons and preceding years. Our math school does not teach with the endgoal of a test in mind, or rush through concepts.  Instead, we emphasize derivation through logical and critical thinking instead of memorization. Our goal is to provide our students with a foundation of deep mathematical knowledge and an agility of thought that will serve them well throughout their entire lives. 

An RSM student enters the program at his individual level within his grade. Our math programs ensure that all students are appropriately challenged. Because our curriculum is consistent for every class, moving between levels, grades, and even between branches is always a possibility.

The teachers at RSM are unique in the industry. Distinguished by their educational and professional backgrounds, the majority hold master's degrees or higher in mathematics, education or both.  And virtually all of them have spent time working in fields that require them to apply their math skills. They not only understand math on a deep level but also genuinely enjoy the subject, have utilized it regularly in their lives, and serve as role models to their students. Many of our teachers are parents of RSM students or, more recently, are RSM alumni themselves.

At RSM, we believe that our results should be measurable. In our math programs, short quizzes and longer school-wide term math tests are a normal part of our lessons and an invaluable tool for students, teachers, and parents to track progress. By the time our students take on the myriad of tests required in High School, they have the confidence and tools required to take them.
