OUR APPROACH At KIPP, teachers, students, and families are all united around the same goal—college graduation. Through our collective hard work and commitment, KIPP students complete college at a rate that is above the national average for all students and four times higher than students of similar economic backgrounds.
Our Success is Driven By: - FOCUS ON CHARACTER
A focus on character has been the cornerstone of KIPP since we began and is still the essence of what we believe: to succeed in college and the world beyond, KIPPsters need both a strong academic foundation and well-developed character strengths. They’re deeply interconnected and we never compromise one for the other. KIPP’s character work focuses on the seven strengths that are critical for an engaged, happy, and successful life. Our character framework was developed by educators at KIPP NYC in collaboration with Dr. Angela Duckworth, Dr. Martin Seligman, and the late Dr. Chris Peterson, and in partnership with Riverdale Country School. RIGOROUS CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION At KIPP, we believe all students will learn and achieve at high levels when given the opportunity. To prepare students with the skills and content knowledge needed to be successful in college and their careers, KIPP teachers deliver high-quality, rigorous curriculum and instruction. By monitoring academic progress, KIPP teachers know what their students need and tailor instruction so every child receives the appropriate level of support and challenge. - CULTURE OF ACHIEVEMENT AND SUPPORT
We believe that an excellent college-prep education will set students up for success in whatever life path they choose. That’s why KIPP students, families, and teachers form a partnership that puts learning first. KIPP students, parents, and teachers all sign a learning pledge called the “Commitment to Excellence,” that lays out the role they each play in ensuring a positive school experience. - HIGHLY EFFECTIVE TEACHERS AND LEADERS
Continuous learning is one of KIPP’s core values and we believe there is always room to learn, grow, and improve at each stage of your KIPP career. That’s why we prioritize and invest in invaluable on-the-job training and collaborative learning, transformative coaching experiences, and the highest-quality formal professional development. - MORE TIME LEARNING
KIPP knows that in school, as in life, reaching big goals takes time and effort. That’s why KIPP schools feature an extended school day and longer calendar year. With this additional time, KIPP schools help students catch up to their peers, acquire essential academic knowledge and skills, and become prepared for college and career choices. - KIPP THROUGH COLLEGE
KIPP counselors support students as they prepare for and select the right college and career based on their interests and passions. After high school, KIPP advisors help alumni navigate the academic, social, and financial challenges they might encounter while in college or pursuing a career.
