The Delaware College Scholars’ (DCS) Program at St. Andrew’s is a partnership between St.
Andrew’s School and the Delaware Department of Education Higher Education office. Its mission
is to recruit, assist, and enrich high-performing lower income high school students academically
and socially towards applying to competitive college and universities as well as preparation
towards their eventual transition into higher education upon completion of their Delaware High
School graduation. DCS targets these students in particular because research shows that lower
income students who demonstrate high academic ability early in HS unfortunately plateau and
do not fully reach their full potential. DCS engages this particular group, prepares them for the
college process and simultaneously exposes them to social and academic experiences to help
acclimate their understanding of what it takes to excel beyond high school. The end goal of the
DCS is for 100% of participants to graduate high school and gain acceptance into competitive 4-
year colleges/universities.
