The King Abdullah Academy, founded in 2016, is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World school in Northern Virginia. It is officially accredited by AdvancED now Cognia and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to graduate students enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme (designed for 11th and 12th-grade students) with the internationally recognized IB Diploma. Additionally, the Academy offers the IB Middle Years Programme, an inquiry-based and conceptually focused curriculum framework, in grades 6 through 10 which culminates in the Personal Project, the Programme’s capstone project.
We offer continuing professional development opportunities focusing on collaborative models of teaching and learning practices where students are at the centre of the learning. Virginia or National Board certification is preferred, and our Administration supports teachers seeking endorsements. The academy warmly accepts applicants from a variety of backgrounds, and we celebrate our diverse community. The Academy endeavors to provide a caring, challenging, and supportive learning environment where students can achieve their highest potential while exhibiting civic responsibility and multicultural appreciation. Currently the academy hosts around 750 students.
