Summary/objective:

 The Staff Counselor and Wellness Educator supports the student counseling program of Middlesex School by identifying, organizing and providing counseling to students, and facilitating the support of students through the identification of wellness resources and programming.

Schedule

Hours are variable, generally, Monday through Friday with some Saturday work as needed, hours of work to be determined by the Director of Counseling in coordination with the employee, 10 months (mid-August to mid-June) per year with no work obligations the week of Thanksgiving and for two weeks each for our winter break and our spring break when students are not on campus.

  • Partner under the direction of the Director of Counseling and work with the Health Committee to achieve the department goals.
  • Meet weekly with Director to coordinate programming, facilitate support of students, and discuss mental health; meet with other committees as assigned.
  • Meet with students weekly for short-term counseling and/or evaluation.
  • Coordinate resources for students and families.
  • Expand clinical referral base.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work environment

  • In office environment.

Physical demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Remain standing for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to traverse various areas of the facility (including unpaved areas, dirt paths, uneven terrain, etc.) to get from parking to buildings around campus.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted.
  • Communication skills using spoken and written word.
  • Ability to use a visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example using a keyboard, sorting, etc.

Minimum Degree: MSW
Certification Required: Yes
Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years

 
Qualifications:

Required education and experience

  • Master’s degree or higher in a mental-health or related field.
  • Currently licensed mental health provider or eligible to be licensed by hire date.
  • At least 3 years of experience counseling adolescents and their families.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of adolescent students.
